Thomas the Tank Engine
This is a project I've been working on for a long time, partly because I have
to make 2 of them, partly because it took me a long time to find the right color. I ended up using a different brand yarn for each one (so if the pictures look different, you don't need to adjust your color settings) and I'm still not completely happy with either, but what can you do? (Besides hope that my cousins are both color-blind). My two Thomases are done in Vanna's Choice Baby Little Blue Boy and Red Heart Soft Yarn Teal, but if you find something that's closer to the original, please let me know and I'll post it on here. That being said, the project itself isn't difficult, just a lot of parts. I recommend labeling them as soon as you make them, so that when it comes time to sew them together, you know which is which. This pattern is still a work in progress, I will probably add more pictures as I put the finishing touches on Thomas 2 (it's almost finished, but for running out of yarn--you know how it is). And of course, if there are any mistakes or missing parts (which wouldn't surprise me in the least), please let me know and I'll fix it as soon as I can.

Details
Glue or stick on googly eyes. Embroider eyebrows with black yarn, mouth with embroidery thread as shown.
Embroider with red yarn on main side as shown on each side of Thomas.
Embroider yellow 1 in the middle of main side on each side. Glue a square of black felt on each side.
Embroider red yarn on main top as shown, pulling somewhat tightly to make slight dents in the fabric.
Embroider two yellow circles on back front and two straight yellow lines in the middle. Sew front circles on red front and embroider a little black yarn in between them, making it stick out so that there's a space between the yarn and the fabric. Cut windows out of felt and glue under back top. Add any other remaining details.

You are wonderful! What a great pattern! It looks kind of strange when you see the seperate parts, but it all comes together when you put it together. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm hoping I can put my second one together, I sewed as I went the first time, we'll see how well it goes.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't believe it when I saw this pattern, a dream come true! My 2 year old grandson is going to love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing it.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a step by step assembly guide for Thomas?
ReplyDeleteNo, sorry. I tried to make it as clear as possible with the labels and Figure A and B--if there's any confusion though, let me know and I'll try to help as best I can.
ReplyDeleteI'm Having trouble in joining. I cant understand how. So the main sides, do i have to join the non-extended part with the body front, or is it the extended part? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThe body front is joined to the extended parts because underneath is where the two half circles are going to be. The completely straight side (at least, that's what I hope you're talking about--I hope I'm understanding your question correctly) goes towards the back since it will be attached to the back sides. I hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but I still cant figure out how exactly I have to join.I tried but im not sure if i did it properly. is there a way were i can send u a picture for you to see? Say so if im asking too much.
ReplyDeleteSure, you can send it. Are you a Ravelry member? That would probably be the easiest way to show me, posting it on there. If not, you can send me an email: gundamgirlwing@hotmail.com. Talk to you soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is completely adorable. What size hook did you use? Do you have measurements of the finished guy?
ReplyDeleteWow so I crocheted all the parts, and now I feel like I'm just winging it. I have no idea how you put this together.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat. Did you get it together? If so, please help!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern. I take care of an adult with a developmental disability 2 weekends a month, and she loves Thomas the Train, so want to make her one. Would 1 skein of each colour of Vanna's Choice be enough? Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi there, the red pieces first part what are we joking that to for joining round?
