Here's a simple pattern that can be modified for a lot of different creatures, Pokemon or otherwise. A good way to use up your stash of fashion yarns that you didn't know what to do with. Homer Simpson

My cousin loves the Simpsons, so I made this Homer for her birthday. I'm not sure which family member I'll make next, it depends on what she likes, but with respect to her anyway, birthday and Christmas presents will be easy. I had trouble finding a good yellow though so I ended up doubling up a crochet thread (I used Aunt Lydia's Goldenrod). I'd love to see it in worsted weight yarn.

Update: Here's a picture of a worsted weight version I made for my father.

With black thread, embroider a zig zag above each ear and 2 straight stitches on top of head for hair. Sew head to body using yellow, sew collar opening closed. Sew feet to legs, make a straight stitch on each leg with black for cuffs. Sew arms to body, leaving some sc free to sew to sleeve parts. Sew sleeves to body, stuffing lightly. Embroider finger and thumbs with black. With tan felt (for crochet thread version anyway, if you want to crochet it, just use head rounds until it's large enough) and draw (I used a regular ball point pen) or embroider the mouth. And that's Homer!

Mareep

Mareep is a Pokemon I've been making on and off between other projects. It differs from my other projects and other people's projects in that it uses a bulky weight yarn for the body. I originally did this because I wanted to avoid sculpting and just have a textured "sheepy" look. I ended up sculpting anyway (it was much easier than I thought), but I left the yarn as is. You can use worsted weight, but you have to add extra increase rows to make it larger. I hope you like it!

Materials

Cream colored bulky weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Homespun)
Blue worsted weight yarn
Small amounts black, yellow and orange worsted weight yarn
2 crochet hooks of different sizes (I used an I hook for the bulky weight, and a G hook for the worsted)

Rnd 22: sc in next 5 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc around (36 sc)
Rnd 23: sc in next 4 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc around (30 sc)
Rnd 24: sc in next 3 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc around (24 sc)
Rnd 25: sc in next 2 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc around (18 sc)

Sew to head; wrap remaining yarn around last row and pull tightly for shaping

Hair

Ch 4
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch space across (3 sc)

Rnd 10-12: sc in each sc around
Row 13: fold in half and sc together (3 sc)
Fasten off.
Sew Rnd 13 to ball. Sew to body.

Finishing and Sculpting.

Cut out eyes out of felt and glue as shown. Embroider 2 straight stitches for nostrils. To sculpt, make straight stitches in random locations around the body and pull tightly to form dents in the crochet fabric. With black thread, embroider a straight stitch on each leg for toe separation.

Bulbasaur Trio Part III Venusaur

Here's the last part in our evolution series. He's (and he is a he; females have a seed--I may make an optional add on later on) a little more detailed than the others in that he has more crocheted parts. Nothing extremely difficult to make, but somewhat difficult to get to stay up. As you'll see on the materials list below, I had to use something to keep the flower petals from bending down. I myself used chopsticks since I had them around the house, but you can use whatever you like. If you're making this for a child, you may want to choose a safer alternative like fabric stiffener (although I haven't tried that yet so I can't guarantee if it would work--it may be too heavy). If you find a good solution, let me know and I'll add it up here. Excepting that part, the pattern is fairly straightforward. But, as always, if you have any questions, let me know. Without further ado (I know it was a long explanation), here's Venusaur! Good luck!

*Edit* Rita (see comment below) has suggested using plastic canvas for the petals. Thanks for the idea!

Stick chopsticks or whichever material you choose into the trunk to support the flower. I didn't glue mine, just in case I ever decided to reposition it, but you can if you prefer.

Finishing

With felt, cut out eyes and mouth and ears and glue or stick to head. Attach small pieces of white felt to the mouth for teeth (All of the above can also be done with fabric paint or a mixture of the two, as I did). Sew eyelids above eyes. Above the mouth, embroider 2 straight lines for nostrils. Add white nails with either fabric paint or felt to bottom of legs.
